Tech Pod Favorites

Below are some of the iPad Apps that the Tech Pod really likes:

  • Angry Birds (Pam & Jane) - Keep the pigs away from the birds' nests - this is a great game to learn how to use the touch screen on the iPad.
  • Blanks (Pam) - A vocabulary word game
  • Common Core State Standards (Jane) - The CCSS in a simple to read format
  • Dictionary (Jane & Doreen) - This is an app of Dictionary.com. Use it to learn a new Word of the Day and look up any word you can think of (put this app next to your Words with Friends app to find obscure words).
  • Ever Note (Jane) - Create To Do lists, keep notes, etc.
  • Google Earth (all) - An iPad version of Google Earth
  • Handwritten Notes Lite (Doreen) - Draw or write with your finger - change pen and background colors and email to your friends.
  • History Maps (Pam) - This app has different historical maps of the world that give you population density, oceans, etc. for different eras - from the 4th to the 20th Century
  • Ice Cream Maker Lite (Doreen) - Great game for kids - make ice cream and then eat the whole thing (There's a version for cupcakes [Cupcakes] and cookies [The Cookie Maker], too)
  • MultiConvert (Doreen) - Use this app to convert anything - money, measurement units, etc.
  • Onlive Desktop (Jane) - Create a free Onlive Desktop account at http://desktop.onlive.com/ and then download the app for your iPad. You'll swear you're sitting in front of your PC using MS Office 2010. Brian - You'll love this!
  • Puffin (Jane) - This is a free Web browser that lets you run Flash Web sites on your iPad.
  • Skype (All) - An iPad version of Skype - personal videoconferencing
  • Storyboards Lite (Pam) - Create scenes with characters to lay out plans for a video
  • Quick Graph (Pam) - Create math graphs by writing formulas - help middle school and high school students learn about higher level math
  • Word Search+ (Doreen) -
  • Word Warp (Doreen) - A timed word game that would be great for helping build vocabulary
  • Words with Friends (Jane) - Play online Scrabble with your friends
  • Kindle (Donna) - Read books magazines, and more - Over 1 Million eBooks and newspapers
  • Dropbox is a great service for syncing documents across multiple devices. The iPad client works like the iPhone one (hardly surprising, since this is a universal app), enabling you to preview many file types and store those marked as favourites locally.
